Mohammedan ensure victory after Alok Kapali's clinical performance

After forming a good partnership with Salman Butt, who himself made 62 from 80 balls, Shamsur Rahman departed for 84, missing the century by 16 runs. This is a normal trend surrounding the right-handed pinch-hitter as his conversion rate is quite poor.

Indeed, in the 8 half-centuries that he has made in his T20 career, he could never convert them into 100s. Even in the ODIs, he failed to smash a single century despite making two 50+ scores.

Regardless of that, his innings was brilliant—nothing can be taken away from that as his 84 runs helped the team reach 230 runs. Shamsur’s innings was supported by Rakibul Hasan Jr’s 27 from 32 balls and Saeed Sarker’s 22 from 31.

In the bowling department of Brothers Union, almost every bowler did a decent job in what appeared to be a great team effort. Be it Alok Kapali’s cunning bowl to get rid of the dangerous Salman Butt or Sohrawordi Shuvo’s trickery to pick the scalp of Shamsur Rahman—it was some compact bowling from the lot.

Shuvo picked up two wickets while Kapali, Sajjad Rony, Khaled Ahmed and Hasan Rana took one wicket each to stop the strong Mohammedan outfit for 230 for 8 after 50 overs.

Despite picking up 3 wickets in 51 runs, Mohameddan could not resist Brothers Union from picking up a victory because of a splendid innings from Alok Kapali.

By ending a 105-run partnership between John Simpson and Kapali, Mohameddan bowlers scalped two more wickets, but Kapali kept adding to their miseries as he guided his team to a victory.

Simpson made 39 runs before Ebadat Hossain Chowdhury trapped him lbw. Ebadat had also dismissed Zunayed Siddique on 22 runs. Kazi Anik Islam also took two scalps by dismissing Yasir Ali Rabbi and Mayshukur Islam on 21 and 9, respectively. Shuvashish bagged his only wicket in the match by getting opener Mizanur Rahman out on 4 runs.

Alok Kapali remained unbeaten scoring 95 runs and Sohrawardi Shuvo made 30 runs while remaining not out to ensure their win. While wickets were falling at the other end, an experienced Kapali stood firm and helped his team pick up a 5-wicket victory.

Mohammedan Sporting Club Ltd innings: 230/8(50 overs),
Brothers Union innings: 232/5(47.2 overs),
Brothers Union won by 5 wickets
