After the news of Sabbir Rahman assaulting a fan during a National Cricket League match surfaced, things have gone a little haywire in the cricket scene of Bangladesh. After all, a senior player doing something like this was always going to have repercussions.

And interim Bangladesh boss, Khaled Mahmud Sujon, has confessed that he can’t accept what the right-handed batsman did. Sujon, who is also the director of the team, admitted that Sabbir is a role model and that children look up to him, so doing something like this doesn’t bode well for him.

“He [Sabbir Rahman] is a role model,” he was quoted as saying by Poriborton.

“Some people idolize Sabbir and some want to be like [Mahmudullah] Riyad. It is a shame if you raise your hands on a spectator that has come to witness the match. This can’t be accepted under any circumstances.”

In a repeat of what Akram Khan said earlier, Khaled Mahmud believes that the incident won’t be tolerated and the disciplinary committee will soon come to a decision.

“This has come in the match referee’s report. Sabbir also might have a say I guess. The board doesn’t tolerate such incidents. Whatever has happened, the board will definitely look into it and take a final decision.”

While Sujon also admitted that Sabbir’s reaction might have been borne out of anger and the heat of the moment, but it still isn’t something that an international player should be doing.

It is expected that, according to the code of conduct, Sabbir will be fined around 5 lac taka and might be suspended from playing domestic cricket for 3-6 months.
