Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo said that he is impressed with pace bowlers in the ongoing BCB President’s Cup.

BCB introduced the three-team 50-over tournament as part of resumption plan following their enforced seven months break following enforced corona break.

The pacers regularly led from the front for their respective regularly and in the process outperforming the spinners while the wicket-takers' chart of the fifty-over tournament is dominated by pacers, with the likes of Rubel Hossain, Al Amin Hossain, Ebadot Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman, Mohammad Saifuddin and young Shoriful Islam.

‘’All we have been asking for in the last seven or eight months is to try to find some good young fast bowlers. Now we are finally developing a good group of fast bowlers who can be competitive. If you look at Taskin, Fizz, Al-Amin, Hasan Mahmud, Khaled, Shoriful. There are six or seven fast bowlers who can do well in international cricket. If a team gets 280, we will say the bowlers are bad. If a team gets 180, we will say the batsmen are bad. I think there have been some really good bowling in the last two weeks, and that’s a big positive for me,’’ said Domingo.

“I can’t compliment the players enough for the work they have done in the last six or seven weeks. Look at the shape of Taskin and how Rubel is going, and Khaled who came back from a big injury; the guys have really worked hard on their fitness levels. We are trying to improve their skills and make sure that they can perform at international level. The biggest thing Taskin has done is change his work ethic. He is working so much harder. He is very good physical condition. He can bowl more than one or two spells. His comeback spells are also quick, so that’s very pleasing for us. We are pushing hard to make sure guys are bowling at good pace at 5pm and at 10am,’’ he said.

“From the time I got here, I have said that I think it is important we develop some fast bowlers. We have to play them as much as we can, especially if you want to compete away from home. I am very excited about what I have seen. You look at the way Taskin bowls. Every international team in white-ball cricket has a fast bowler that they call on, when they need a wicket. England calls Jofra Archer, South Africa calls Rabada, Australia calls Mitchell Starc and India calls Bumrah. So it is great to see that we have some options now that when the game is tight, we can call on someone to bowl quickly. Someone like Taskin and Khaled to bounce one or two guys out. It is very pleasing for me. If we take one thing out of this one-day tournament is the performance of the fast bowlers. The media and public should be excited by that as we don’t want to be an one-dimensional side, especially when we go away from home. If they are making the life of the batsmen hard, I am excited. That’s okay. To win games, you have to take 10 or 20 wickets,’’ he added.
