AB de Villiers rocked with Eagles as South Africa made their comeback into competitive cricket with the start of the three-team Cricket Solidarity Cup in Centurion on Saturday.


Villiers team Eagles won this unusual tournament.


AB’s Eagles won gold in the tournament. Quinny’s Kites secured silver from second place and KG’s Kingfishers secured bronze from third place.


The 3TC match is contested between three teams consisting of eight players each. The match is played over 36 overs in two halves of 18 overs with a break at half-time.

The team that scored the most runs in the first half had to cross the target in the second half. The team scoring the most runs declared the winner.


Heinrich Klaasen's Kingfishers batted first in the rain-affected match. De Villiers' Eagles were bowling then. Janneman Malan scored 31 off 16 balls which helped the Kingfishers to score 56 runs for the loss of two wickets in six overs.


Aiden Markram and Rassie van der Dussen opened for Eagles. Because of the stormy innings of Markram's 47 from 23 bowls Eagles reached 66 for one. On the other hand, Kites lost one wicket in six overs and score 58 runs.


Eagles, who scored the most runs in the first half, got the chance to bat first in the second half. Eagles made 160 off 12 overs with Markam's 70 and the batsman, known for his ability to play 360-degree shots across all parts of the ground De Villiers' scored 61 off 24 bowls.


While batting to chase down the target of the Eagles Kites innings stopped after scoring 138 after losing three wickets at the end of 12 overs. Dwayne Pretorius scored highest 50 off 17 bowls for his team.



While, Kingfishers ended their innings by scoring 113 runs in their remaining six overs.


The match acknowledged the worldwide movement of 'Black Lives Matter' with players wearing black armbands and taking a knee prior to the start. It also served as a fundraiser for the people who were financially affected due to the coronavirus pandemic.
