Left-handed opener Tamim Iqbal has been given the responsibility to lead Bangladesh in the one day team and has been given a long time role to captain Bangladesh.
There was lot of speculation of who will be the next captain of Bangladesh. Mahmudullah was one of the candidates for this position.

Under Tamim Bangladesh team will play the 50 over match. The decision has been taken from the meeting of the Board of Directors of Bangladesh Cricket Board today (Sunday). Tamim's captaincy in the second phase will begin with the one-day tour of Pakistan.
Last Thursday, Mashrafe bin Mortaza announced that he would quit the ODI captaincy. Bangladesh played the last ODI under him on Friday. As a result, BCB started looking for a new captain.
Initially, it was suggested that three senior cricketers - Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah Riyad and Tamim Iqbal - would be in the front line to fill the vacancies left by Mashrafe. In this situation as Mahmudullah is already the captain of Twenty20 his name was expected the most.
But in the end, the board chose Tamim, not Mahmudullah. Prior to the World Cup, Tamim has captained the three-match ODI series in Sri Lanka. He scored just 20 runs in three games of the series, and the Bangladesh team was whitewashed 0-3.
