Former Australian captain Steve Waugh said Steve Smith always finds a way to come back when someone is about to write him off. Smith is making a return to the Test cricket after facing a 12-month ban for his involvement in the ball-tampering in a Test match against South Africa at Cape Town.
The English crowd was in the back of this Australian batsman in the World Cup because of that incident and its expected that the crowd will once again taunt him in the upcoming Ashes series. But Smith handled the pressure pretty well in the World Cup where he scored 379 runs for Australia in 10 matches. Waugh believes Smith will once again find out a way to get out of all this.

"The thing I know about Steve Smith is he always finds a way. If someone's going to write him off, or say he's not what he used to be, they do that at their peril because he's a guy that finds a way," Waugh quoted at cricket.com.au
But Waugh said the English crowd is the best in the World and they appreciate good cricket. They may make players life a difficult but as professional players, they should be able to handle this Waugh believes.
"The English crowds are the best in the world. They really appreciate good cricket, and I hope that's going to be the case. There will be a small element that's going to make it tough for our guys, but that's a professional sport and it's water off a duck's back that sort of stuff. They're ready for it and they've experienced it before," Waugh added.
Alongside Smith, opener David Warner and Cameron Bancroft are also making a comeback in the Test cricket with this Ashes series. They were also involved in the ball-tampering incident.
Waugh believes Smith is fully prepared for the first Test of Ashes and he has never seen a player to hit so many balls in the nets.
"His training and his work ethic is exceptional, I've never seen a guy hit as many balls. He'll be thoroughly prepared for the first Test match," Waugh concluded.
