Zimbabwe coach Lalchand Rajput, hailing from Maharastra, Mumbai wanted a Diwali gift from his charges as the fourth day game of the first Test on Tuesday coincided with India’s prime festival.

His charges however didn’t disappoint him as they completed a 151-run win over Bangladesh just one hour after the lunch on the fourth day, making it their first Test victory since 2013. The victory that came without much toil against a lackluster Bangladesh, was also their first away victory in 17 years.

The indeed broke the jinx of their away victory in a country where they last got their victory in 2001.

“The first thing is that as everyone knows Diwali is a big thing in in India, so I told the boys it’s the last day of the Test match and it’s Diwali on the same day, so I told them the best gift they can give to me is a win in the Test match and they have really done well,” said an elated Rajput.

“Over the years, Zimbabwe have not been doing well in Test cricket, they’ve had their problems. But when you win, all these problems are pushed aside. The win was very important for us. Even for the team, because when you taste that win it’s a different feeling in the dressing room as well. This win will go a long way, and I’m sure the players’ confidence, the team’s confidence is really up now. And it we really look forward to it going up and up only from now onwards.”
