Uncapped Test batsman Mohammad Mithun remained grounded despite eyeing to fulfill his biggest cricketing dream- earning a Test cap.

The right handed batsman was included in the Test squad for the series against Zimbabwe after he made a remarkable turnaround in the shorter-format set-up during their campaign in the Asia Cup.

Though he did not have as many runs as he would have liked in the three-match ODI’s but his batting approach was lauded both by the team mates and coaching staff.

As a result selectors were forced to include him in the longer formats and now the middle-order batsman is eyeing to seize the opportunity with both hands as that is expected to boost his confidence to the tilt.

“As a player, I think my career will be fulfilled when I will be able to play Test cricket. If I can be successful in Test cricket then I will feel that I am fit for cricket,’’ Mithun told reporters ahead of the opening Test adding that he is not interested to follow a different route when it comes to handle excitement.

‘’It never happened in my life [over-excitement with anything]. Maybe it's my nature. I try to take it easy even when I dropped from the team. I take everything easily,” he said

Mithun, who is known to be a free flowing stroke maker, stressed the importance of patience but on the same note added that it cannot turn out to be over cautious.

“You have to take time in Test cricket. As a batsman, I will definitely take time to settle if I get the chance to play the first Test, but in the end runs are also important,’’ said Mithun.

‘’You have to punish the bad ball. No matter how much time you spend in the middle you have to score runs, otherwise you are not a set batsman,” he added.

According to Mithun the experience of first-class cricket and being part of Khulna Division, considered to a major force in the longer formats will certainly help hin handle the pressure of Test cricket.

“Experience is important in Test cricket. You have to have great experience to play Test cricket. I have been playing first-class cricket for a long time and it will help me,’’ said Mithun.

‘’If we look at other Test nations, most Test cricketers come into the team on the back of huge domestic experience. I have also got that experience and I will try to capitalise on it,” he said adding that teammates like Tushar Imran and Abdur Razzak in Khulna Division helped him to learn how to absorb the pressure of longer version cricket.
