Cumilla Warriors English all-rounder Dawid Malan praised Sabbir Rahman for batting deep as he feels keeping wickets in hand helped them beat Rangpur Rangers in the high-scoring affair at Chattogram’s  Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Wednesday.

Sabbir Rahman and Dawid Malan guided Cumilla Warriors to their second victory in the ongoing Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 Cricket beating Rangpur Rangers by six wickets at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Wednesday.

Rangpur posted a competitive 181-8 on the back of Afghan opener Mohammad Shahzada whirlwind 27 ball-61 but that was not enough to resist their losing streak as Cumilla reached 182-4 with two overs to spare on the back of a combined batting effort led Sabbir Rahman, Soumya Sarkar and man of the match Dawid Malan, who hammered unbeaten 42 runs from 24 balls comprised with two fours and three sixes and the knock seemed to be the catalyst in Cumilla’s victory at the end.

Sabbir made the highest score for Cumilla with 40 ball-49, studded by three fours and two sixes while Soumya Sarkar blasted 41 off 34 with five fours and one six.

‘’All credit to Sabbir he batted dip and did not throw his wicket away and we had wickets in hand in crucial times,’’ man of the match Malan told reporters after the game at Chattogram on Wednesday.

He is a star player for Bangladesh. He can do everything and he can bat long and got the power game and it is obviously great to have him,’’ he said.

‘’I play well with him and our challenges in this tournaments is to play well with him depending on the batting position because if he plays well we can have a good tournament,’’ he said.

‘’He has a power game and will win some games for us,’’ he said.

Malan congratulated the bowlers to keep their nerve despite the initial onslaught by Mohammad Shahzad, who scored 27-ball 61, and added that restricting the opponent inside 180 was crucial for them.

‘’We did not bowl in the first six overs and Shahzad played exceptionally well as he basically got them to a great start and I think after first six overs we bowled exceptionally to keep them under 180 runs as that kept us in the game,’’ he said.

‘’The boundary is so small and the wicket is playing so well that you can be under pressure if you give 14 -16 runs in an over but our bowlers managed to keep their composure despite being put under pressure,’’ he said.
