Legends of Rupganj hit back to winning way to consolidate its top spot while Sheikh Jamal Dhaonmondi Club clinched its fifth straight win, including three in a row in the Super League phase of Dhaka Premier League (DPL) at different venues across the city.

Legends of Rupganj vs Prime Doleshwar

Taskin Ahmed’s 4-54 was complemented by Shahriar Nafees’s unbeaten 113 as Legends of Rupganj consolidated its top spot in Dhaka Premier League (DPL) with a seven-wicket victory over Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club at BKSP-4 ground on Friday.

This was their much-needed victory after their four-wicket defeat to Sheikh Jamal in the previous match.

Taskin Ahmed’s fiery bowling just after his World Cup snub, helped Rupganj bowl Prime Doleshwar out for 205 in 45 overs. Shahriar Nafees however made the target a calk-walk, hitting his eighth List A century that sailed the side home with 208-3 in 44.2 overs.

Nafees hit 11 fours and one six in his 142 ball-113 not out which came at moment when Rupganj lost inform opener Mohammad Naim before they opened the account while chasing the target.

Nafees and Mehedi Maruf who scored 41, combined for exact 100-run for the second wicket stand to get the side back on track. He then shared two more significant partnerships—51 with Asif Ahmed (17) and unbeaten 57 with skipper Naeem Islam (32 not out) to ensure the team would face no hiccup.

Earlier, electing to bat first Prime Doleshwar had no answer to deal with Taskin’s immense pace that unsettled them right from the words go. His fellow pacer Mohammad Shahid also put up a good performance by claiming 3-35, much to the disappointment of Doleshwar batsmen.

Shykat Ali was the highest scorer for the side with 73 and held together the innings until he too was rattled by Taskin’s express delivery. Opener Saif Hasan was the other notable scorer with 37 before being dismissed by Taskin.

Sheikh Jamal vs Mohammedan

Captain Nurul Hasan Sohan struck an unbeaten 83 to lead Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club to a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Mohammedan Sporting Club at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah.

This was Sheikh Jamal’s fifth straight victory in the league and three in a row in the Super League, helping them to move into the third spot of DPL point table with 18 points, behind Legends of Rupganj (24) and Abahani Limited (22).

With two matches still left, no team barring Rupganj and Abahani are in the race for the coveted DPL title.

Put into bat first, Mohammedan were dismissed for a paltry 159 in 44.4 overs, a target which Jamal gunned down with ease despite a shaky start as they reached the winning target of 163-3 in 33.3 overs.

Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club were reduced to 13-2 in fifth over but recovered from the collapse thanks to opener Imtiaz Hossain and skipper Nurul Hasan Sohan. The duo added 120-run for the second wicket stand with Sohan taking the anchor role.

Imtiaz was removed for 54 off 88 with seven fours and one six but Sohan remained unscathed to help the side sail the home. His 83 not out came off just 85 balls, an in inning in which he struck nine fours and one six.

Mohammedan also tasted a top order collapse as Jamal pace bowler Khaled Ahmed continued tormenting batsmen with raw pace. Seasoned campaigner Tushar Imran held together the innings with 56 runs but leg-spinner Tanbir Hyder triggered a lower middle order collapse to limit Mohammedan in a small total.

Tanbir snapped up 4-16 in 4.4 overs while Khaled ended up with 2-32.
