Naeem's century wraps up the run-fest between Rangpur and Barisal

The Tier 1 clash between Rangpur Division and Barisal Division ended in a stalemate in the National Cricket League after both sides enjoyed a run-fest.


Resuming Barisal’s first innings on the fourth and final day at a score of 384/5, Fazle Mahmud kept fighting while his team suffered a collapse at the other end. He added 65 more runs to his 130-run innings from the previous day, but missed his double-century by becoming his team’s last batsman to get dismissed.


Replying to Rangpur’s first innings total of 502 runs, Barisal registered 458 runs.


Coming on to bat in the second innings, Rangpur posted another 168 runs for the loss of two wickets, by the end of the fourth day. Despite losing the two early wickets, Mahmudul Hasan and Naeem Islam formed an unbeaten 152-run stand, where the latter contributed 100 runs. Mahmudul, too, picked up a half-century and ended the match, being unbeaten on 53 runs.

Ariful Haque was named the Man of the Match for his brilliant double-hundred for Rangpur in the first innings. He also took a wicket for his side in the same innings.


Rangpur Division will face Rajshahi Division in their next match, starting on October 8. Barisal Division, on the other hand, will take on Khulna Division in their second match, starting on the same day.
