Bangladesh will have their work cut out to regain confidence after putting up poor batting displays in back-to-back matches. Following the defeats in those two matches, the board included Soumya Sarkar and Imrul Kayes in the Asia Cup squad, with no option up its sleeve.
Although the first defeat, in the group stage, did not really matter to the Tigers as they had already qualified for the next round, a defeat in the Super Four clash against India has now put them at the bottom of the points table.
Following Tamim Iqbal’s ouster due to an injury, the Bangladesh openers –Liton das and Nazmul Hossain – have scored a total of 27 runs in the last two matches, leaving the rest of the batting lineup exposed. Only time will tell whether the newly added openers meet the expectations or just add to the woes of the team.

Bangladesh ODI skipper Mashrafe Mortaza is displeased with the fact that the openers gave away their wickets despite having no pressure on them to score quick runs. Their top-order is perhaps constantly creating pressure on the middle-order to make up for their mistakes.
He said: “We didn’t really want too many runs. It was nothing like ‘we have to score 60 in the first ten overs. [Facing the] new ball from both ends becomes easier after taking a little time.
“Middle-order batsmen have to build the innings when wicket falls early. It is difficult to always expect from the middle-order.
“Losing two [early] wickets in such matches creates a lot of pressure on the middle-order. We suffered a batting collapse in two consecutive matches.”
Except for Mushfiqur Rahim and Mohammad Mithun’s innings against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh’s batting department was never impressive throughout this tournament so far. With a wobbly batting line-up, they have failed to bat for full 50 overs in all of their three matches.
“Nobody wanted us to lose two matches. [Such] results are disappointing, especially this one’s. Because today's [yesterday’s] match was more important than the previous one. But we still experienced a collapse in batting, which is, of course, disappointing,” Mashrafe told the reporters after the loss against India.
