Mohammad Salahuddin, one of the leading coaches and mentors in Bangladesh, has worked with many of the renowned players in the country to rectify the little flaws they have in their game. Soumya Sarkar is the latest addition in the list of Salahuddin’s pupils, as the left-hander has been struggling to pave his way back to the national side.

The former Bangladesh assistant coach seems to have figured out the mistakes that Soumya makes frequently and is confident that together they will find a way to come out of this situation.

Salahudin said: “I don’t think he has any mental issue. His style of play would have been different every day, if he had mental problems.

“Since he is repeatedly getting out against specific deliveries, there must be some technical problem, nothing else. And fixing it will not be too much trouble.

“He thinks a lot about improving his game in these areas nowadays. I think it can be resolved very quickly and he will make a very good comeback.

“Most of the times he gets caught at slip while trying to play the outswinging new deliveries. He occasionally gets out against off spin as well.

“Sometimes he gets caught at mid-wicket and long on too. If you analyze his whole game, these are the big reasons behind his dismissals.

“He's not sure where he's going to hit. It's easy to figure out these issues.”

One could think that overthinking might cost the southpaw his natural game, but Salahuddin is confident of the batsman’s improvement, as Soumya has been trying to develop his attention to detail.

“Yes, thinking too much in this regard might result in a reversal of good fortune. Excessive efforts can also take an unfavorable turn for many. But he [Soumya] is thinking about a specific thing, which will bring many results for him,” said Salahuddin.

In his last 11 matches in the Red & Green outfit, Soumya never exceeded the 25-run mark and got out before reaching the double-digit on five occasions. Although he bowls a few overs now, but the team is certainly not getting the maximum benefit from his presence.

Emerging as a prominent hitter of the ball, Soumya served the team with his peak performances for around two years. A decline in his form has, however, seen him lose his place in the ODI setup as well. But Salahuddin thinks that Soumya will become better once he overcomes his technical issues.

“Fixing the technical problems will turn him into a better batsman,” Salahuddin concluded.
