Starting the year off with a string of defeats in the tri-nation series final and the two bilateral series (Test and T20I) against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh scripted a great comeback against the same side by eliminating them from the Nidahas Trophy, before losing the final of the tournament.
Their revival, however, was followed by a 3-0 deficit at the hands of Afghanistan, but the Tigers again showed great character and experienced a change of fortune by registering their first limited-overs series victory abroad since 2009.

Sri Lanka and Afghanistan – the two teams that marked the Tigers’ ups and downs in this year so far – will once again cross paths with the Bangladesh team in the group stage of the upcoming Asia Cup. The top two teams from the group of three will qualify for the Super Four and it goes without saying that none of those teams would want to win the wooden spoon of that group.
Bangladesh batsman Soumya Sarkar thinks that the Tigers will have an upper hand over the two opponents as ODIs have been their forte over the past few years.
“We know how to play ODIs,” said Soumya. “According to their strong zone, or the way we play, we are on top.”
Bangladesh won their last ODI series 2-1 against West Indies last month. For the second time, Bangladesh had missed the opportunity to win their maiden Asia Cup title in the last edition of the tournament. They will surely want another shot at title in the continental showpiece event in the UAE next month.
