Steve Rhodes has so far been successful in satisfying Bangladesh’s quest for success in limited-overs cricket. Starting his stint with the team on a negative note in the Test series against West Indies, Rhodes led the Tigers to a brilliant comeback in the ODI and the T20I series against the Caribbean side.

On Monday, BCB media committee chairman Jalal Yunus made it clear that the board is pleased with Rhodes’ method, saying the observation carried out by the coach is “positive”.

The BCB president, Nazmul Hassan also reiterated the BCB spokesperson’s words. He explained the reasons behind selecting a big pool of players ahead of the Asia Cup. He also appreciated the coach’s efforts, who is currently observing Bangladesh A’s performance for the greater good of the national team.

“He [Rhodes] came here and talked to us, and met the selectors,” Hassan told reporters on Tuesday (August 14). “It is normal that he would want to see new faces [in the squad], as he isn’t familiar with enough of our players. Hence, he has asked for a 30-member squad".

“The best part is that he has gone to Ireland to watch the [Bangladesh A] matches. So, he has that zeal in him.”

It goes without saying that the BCB is convinced with successes at the primary stage of Rhodes’ tenure and will be looking to work with him for long term. However, the BCB president has made it clear that Rhodes will be granted enough holidays, maybe more than the former head coach used to get, but he has to be there for the team whenever BCB feels his presence is necessary.

“There won’t be much difference than the [tenure of the] previous incumbent. There might be an increase in holidays [for the coach], but that is not certain.

“Last time, we saw that there was no one in times of need. But there is no scope for this to happen again. We will make sure that he is with the team whenever required,” Hassan added.
