Sakib will determine his own future - Nazmul

Namul Hasan confirms surgery decision up to Shakib

Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan has revealed that all-rounder Sakib al Hasan will determine his own future as far as his finger surgery is concerned. Sakib expressed his desire to undergo a surgery in his injured finger before the Asia Cup in United Arab Emirates, which would effectively rule him out of the tournament.
Sakib’s injury problem started in January when the 31-year old hurt the base of his left little finger while fielding during the tri-series final against Sri Lanka at Mirpur.

Sakib missed the subsequent Test and Twenty20 series against the same opponents and also failed to play in the first few matches of the Nidahas Trophy Twenty20 tournament in Sri Lanka in March.
During his healing period, Sakib took treatment in Thailand and Australia but his pain returned during the recent Twenty20 series in the West Indies and the United States, where he played the last two matches with painkillers. But when Nazmul announced that he would like Sakib to play a question raised whether it was done against the will of the all-rounder
Earlier, Nazmul said that they would have liked to operate him after the Asia Cup but now it is entirely on the shoulder of the all-rounder.
"Sakib called me before going to [Hajj] and I asked him what he should do and at that point, I said if he feels that the operation is required and if he will have a problem playing in this condition, then he should get operated,’’ Nazmul told reporters at Mirpur on Sunday.
‘’I asked him if he feels that he can participate in the Asia Cup, then do [operation] later as it will be beneficial for the team,’’ he said.
"But the decision in this regard is entirely yours [Shakib's],’’ he added.
BCB are insistent because they believe Shakib's absence can be costly considering the level of intensity expected in the Asia Cup, where Bangladesh have been drawn in Pool B with Sri Lanka and Afghanistan in the tournament scheduled from September 15 to 28.
