Bangladesh sweep historic Test series win over Pakistan

Bangladesh clinched their first-ever Test series 2-0 over Pakistan, defeating the hosts by six wickets in the second Test at Rawalpindi, on Tuesday.

This is Tiger's third away series win, following wins in West Indies in 2009 and Zimbabwe in 2021.

Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque laid the foundation for the Tigers, in pursuit of 185 runs. Then Shakib (21) and Mushfiqur (22) made crucial contributions to seize the win against Pakistan.

Shakib struck a boundary in Abrar Ahmed's last delivery of the 56th over to celebrate the win on a high note.

Earlier openers Zakir and Shadman Islam resumed the day on 42-0. Zakir departed after making 40 off 39 balls while Shadman Islam followed Zakir to the dressing room after making 24.

Shanto scored 38 off 82 featuring five boundaries accompanied by Mominul, who contributed 34 runs. 

Bangladesh were set 185 runs to win after the hosts were bundled for 172 in the second innings. Pacers Hasan Mahmud and Nahid Rana shared nine wickets to rattle down Pakistan before rain stopped play on the fourth day.

Hasan recorded career-best figures of 5-43, while Nahid claimed 4-44, as they dismissed Pakistan for 172.

Pakistan earlier were bowled out for 274 in its first innings, after being tormented by Mehidy Hasan Miraz who took 5-61. Litton Das then struck an incredible 138 and Miraz made 78 as Bangladesh posted 262.

Bangladesh won the first Test by 10 wickets which was their first victory over Pakistan in 14 matches.

Litton Das was adjudged the man of the match for his match-saving knock in the first innings that propelled the Tigers to survive 26-6, and Miraz was named the player of the series.
