Rangpur Division captain Akbar Ali is set to receive a two-match suspension for a Level 2 offense committed during the fifth-round National Cricket League (NCL) game against Barishal at the Shahid Kamruzzaman Stadium, Rajshahi.
With only two rounds remaining in this season's NCL, Akbar’s suspension means he will play no further part in the tournament.
Akbar’s unprofessional level of protest led match referee Akhtar Ahmed to impose a suspension on him after the game. So far, 18 players have accumulated demerit points in this season’s NCL, with Akbar being the latest addition to the list.
Minhajul Abedin Nannu, the Convenor of the NCL Technical Committee, confirmed the incident to Cricfrenzy on Thursday.
“The match referee has handed him a two-match ban. He violated the code of conduct twice, which is why this penalty has been imposed,” explained the official.
In the match against Barishal, Akbar contributed 21 runs in the first innings and also claimed two wickets with the ball.
