After Najmul Hossain Shanto expressed his desire to step down from leading the Bangladesh team in all three formats, Tawhid Hridoy's name has emerged as a possible captain for the T20 squad. However, for the upcoming ODI series against Afghanistan in Sharjah, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has named Shanto as the captain.
A few members of the Bangladesh team are departing today for the UAE, while the remaining players will join them tomorrow.
Before heading to the airport, Hridoy spoke with reporters in front of the academy building at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur. When asked about the T20 captaincy, he commented, "The decision lies with the BCB. It’s not in my hands. I believe it’s not just about me or a few individuals. It’s up to the BCB and those in charge to decide. Personally, I think the captaincy should go to whoever is best for the team. And whoever it goes to, I wish them the best."
When questioned about his readiness to take on the role, Hridoy responded, "I don’t want to comment on this right now. Since we have an upcoming series, I want to stay focused on that."
The Bangladesh team returns to ODI cricket after an eight-month break with this series against Afghanistan, which also serves as a build-up to the ICC Champions Trophy scheduled for February in Pakistan.
