Chittagong Kings have made a remarkable return to the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) after a hiatus since 2013 as the team signed Bangladesh's star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan before the draft. In addition, they’ve built a strong squad from the BPL draft on Monday, securing several key players.
This season, the Kings will be coached by former Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait, who played for Chittagong Kings in the 2013 BPL season and is now back in a new role as head coach. Expressing his delight, Tait shared his excitement about his return to the team after the draft.
"I played for Chittagong Kings in 2013, so saying yes to them this time was an easy decision for me. I've had a connection with them since my playing days. The last time I was here in the BPL, I was the coach of Chattogram Challengers. It feels like I've built a special bond with Chattogram." Tait said after today’s event.
The coach is thrilled to have Shakib in the team and is confident that the all-rounder will contribute significantly with both bat and ball.
"As far as I know, Shakib will be available for the entire tournament. We can't predict what will happen in the coming weeks, but he’s very happy to be part of the team. Of course, he’s a star player, and besides his batting and bowling, his leadership qualities will be invaluable for us. Having someone like him in the squad is a huge asset," Tait remarked.
Chittagong also made strong picks from the draft, securing promising young talents like Shamim Hossain Patwary, Parvez Hossain Emon, and Alis Al Islam. Additionally, the team has already signed Shoriful Islam and overseas players like Moeen Ali, Usman Khan, and Angelo Mathews, completing a well-rounded squad that Tait is pleased with.
Discussing the team’s potential, Tait said, "After arriving in Bangladesh, we held meetings, and the local management had excellent insights about the domestic players. They were eager to bring them in, and we got the players we wanted. Looking at our foreign recruits, we’ve got some fantastic players coming in."
With such a balanced squad and strategic leadership, Chittagong Kings are gearing up for an exciting BPL season ahead.
