The Bangladesh Cricket Board has announced the squad for the first Test of next month’s series against Pakistan national cricket team, with two uncapped players earning maiden call-ups.

The opening Test will begin on 8 May at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, while the second Test is scheduled for 16 May at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

Both matches are part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025–2027.

Left-handed opener Tanzid Hasan, already established in white-ball formats, has been rewarded with his first Test call-up after an impressive first-class record of 1,792 runs in 25 matches at an average of 40.

Joining him is prolific middle-order batter Amite Hasan, who averages 49 in first-class cricket with over 80 matches since his debut in 2019.

Bangladesh have also welcomed back experienced pacers Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam to the Test setup for the first time since late 2024.

Off-spinner Nayeem Hasan returns after nearly a year out of the format.

Chief selector Habibul Bashar said Tanzid’s consistent domestic performances and strong technique made him a deserving candidate for Test cricket, adding that the opener has the ability to succeed in the longer format.

“Tanzid has been in our thoughts for Test cricket. He has a very good first-class record and we felt he deserved the opportunity to showcase his ability in Tests. He has a sound technique and plenty of natural ability. We are confident that if he gets the chance, he can perform well in the longer format.”

He also praised Amite’s temperament and consistency, noting that his patience and discipline make him well-suited for red-ball cricket.

“Amite has earned his call-up as he has been one of the most consistent batters in our first-class cricket. His temperament stands out and we believe it is well suited for Test cricket. This format demands patience and discipline, and he has shown those qualities over a sustained period.”

“Both these players have time on their side and can serve Bangladesh for a very long period.”

The selection panel believes both youngsters have long-term potential and could play key roles in Bangladesh’s future in Test cricket.
