BCB president Tamim Iqbal confirmed that the BPL would not be held this year, saying the board did not want to rush the tournament and would instead work on a new structure as he said BCB intends to bring the competition back after addressing its financial, franchise and organisational issues.
Speaking about his vision for the BPL, Litton said players would benefit if they were given the opportunity to remain with the same franchise for several seasons rather than changing teams every year.
“As a player, I want to see the BPL reach a stage where I can truly feel connected to a team. If I play for the same team for a long period, I develop a sense of responsibility towards that team. It is very difficult for a player when the team changes every season,” Litton said in a BCB video.
“I think the same applies to the owners as well. It is difficult to show that level of dedication when things keep changing. If the BPL can maintain continuity and give a player a long-term opportunity with a team, the emotional connection with the franchise will become stronger. Then a player will also work harder to give something back to the team.”
Litton also called for further improvements in the quality and overall organisation of the tournament. He noted that training facilities have improved compared with five or six years ago, but believes the BPL could benefit from more matches and venues.
“Of course, as a player, I would like the standard of the competition to improve further, especially in terms of facilities. If you look at five or six years ago, the standard of the BPL was better in some ways, while the practice facilities were not as good. Now the training facilities are improving,” he said.
“If we can increase the number of matches and venues, I think more people in Bangladesh will want to watch the games and follow every event. If everything is organised properly, it will be even better.”
Litton also highlighted the BPL's role in giving Bangladeshi players an opportunity to interact with overseas stars and learn from them.
“The BPL is a tournament that increases our interaction with foreign cricketers. If someone is not playing regularly for the national team, they get an opportunity to share a dressing room with big stars from other countries and gain experience from them,” he said.
“I think the biggest positive of the BPL is that we always get to share the dressing room with good players. We gain cricketing experience from them, and that experience can be used at the international level.”
