One of the most accomplished all-rounders of his generation, Stokes has scored more than 11,000 international runs and taken 352 wickets across formats.
He played a starring role in England’s 2019 World Cup triumph, scoring an unbeaten 84 in the final against New Zealand before producing a memorable unbeaten 135 against Australia at Headingley weeks later.
Stokes has also enjoyed success in T20 cricket, including two IPL centuries, and will now bring his experience and match-winning ability to the Strikers.
“I’m really excited to be joining the Adelaide Strikers for BBL 16,” Stokes said.
“Adelaide Oval is an incredible place to play cricket, the Big Bash is a fantastic competition and the Strikers have an exciting group, so I’m looking forward to meeting the players, getting stuck in and contributing to a successful season.”
Strikers head coach Tim Paine welcomed the signing, describing Stokes as “one of the greatest all-rounders the game has seen” and a proven match-winner who thrives under pressure.
The signing gives Adelaide a major international star for the full BBL|16 campaign and adds significant experience to their squad.
