The Bangladesh women’s cricket team was set to play the T20 World Cup on home soil, but due to security concerns, the tournament has been moved to the United Arab Emirates. As a result, Nigar Sultana Joty and her team, departed for the UAE on Thursday to participate in the ICC event.

The team left for the UAE at 10 a.m. this morning, with their primary goal being to end their World Cup win drought. The tournament begins on October 3, and Bangladesh is determined to secure their first victory, starting with their opening match against Scotland.

Captain Joty has her sights set not only on winning matches but also on reaching the semifinals.

"First and foremost, we aim to win matches. Except for 2014, we haven’t won a single match in any World Cup. We’ve played good cricket, but that doesn’t matter if we can’t win. So, our first goal is to win. Secondly, once we gain momentum, I believe our team is capable... of course, who doesn’t want to play in the semifinals?" Joty said at a press conference after a photoshoot at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur earlier.

Bangladesh heads into the World Cup with strong preparation, having recently completed a successful tour of Sri Lanka with the ‘A’ team. They won both the ODI and T20 series, defeating their opponents 4-1 in the shorter format, with impressive performances from both batters and bowlers.

Now, the challenge is to carry that momentum into the World Cup. Bangladesh is placed in Group B, alongside England, Scotland, South Africa, and the West Indies in the 10-team tournament.
