Mumbai Indians opener Rohit Sharma criticized the broadcasters of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) for a “breach of privacy” after conversations meant to be private were recorded, telecast, and subsequently went viral on social media.

The former MI captain has been in the spotlight recently, not only for his inconsistent performance with the bat in the 17th IPL season but also for a controversial conversation with a member of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) coaching staff at Eden Gardens.

This conversation, which took place during MI’s away match against KKR on 11 May, was captured on video and shared widely before being deleted.

In the video, Rohit was seen chatting with Abhishek Nayar, a former Mumbai cricketer who currently serves as KKR's assistant coach. During the discussion, Rohit mentioned his future with the five-time champions after being replaced by Hardik Pandya as captain, hinting that this might be his final season with MI.

Further speculation about his exit from the franchise was fueled when Rohit was later seen sitting in the Knight Riders’ dressing room on the same day.

“The lives of cricketers have become so intrusive that cameras are now recording every step and conversation we are having in privacy with our friends and colleagues, at training or on match days,” Rohit wrote in a scathing post on X, formerly Twitter.

“Despite asking Star Sports to not record my conversation, it was and was also then played on air, which is a breach of privacy. The need to get exclusive content and focused only on views and engagement will one day break the trust between the fans, cricketers and cricket. Let better sense prevail,” Rohit further wrote in the post
