Gary Kirsten, the former South African batsman and coach, has been appointed as the head coach for Pakistan's men's cricket team in limited-overs formats, leading into the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
Meanwhile, former Australian fast bowler Jason Gillespie has taken over as the head coach for Pakistan's Test cricket team.
Azhar Mahmood has also been confirmed as an assistant coach across all formats. The three appointments have been made for a two-year period following a recruitment process.
The announcement from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in Lahore follows a period of significant upheaval within the organization.
The PCB has undergone substantial changes in its coaching staff, team captains, and management following Pakistan's disappointing finish in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. The team placed fifth, falling short of the semifinals.
Kirsten brings a wealth of experience, having previously coached India to victory in the 2011 Cricket World Cup. He has also worked with South Africa's men's team and has had various roles with club and franchise cricket teams.
Gillespie, known for his successful international career with Australia, has played 71 Test matches and 91 one-day internationals (ODIs). He is set to start his new role immediately, the PCB announced on Sunday.
