Bangladesh left-arm spinner Taijul Islam’s availability for the upcoming T20 World Cup has been clouded after suffering a ligament injury.
The left-handed spinner played two Tests against Sri Lanka with an injury. He was also called into the T20Is for the three-match series but did not get a chance in the XI.
Taijul will undergo a fitness test after Eid to determine the severity of the injury. It will then be confirmed how long he will need to stay off the field.
However, a source informed Cricfrenzy that Taijul may be sidelined for at least 3 months. Which means there is no chance of Taijul playing in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Soumya Sarkar also suffered injury during the ODI series against Sri Lanka. As a result, he is unable to participate in the Dhaka Premier League.
BCB doctor Debashish Chowdhury told Cricfrenzy that “Taijul and Soumya are currently undergoing rehab for their injuries. They will undergo a fitness test after Eid to determine the severity of their injuries. Hope, both players will recover before the World Cup,”
Soumya and Taijul are unlikely to play in the upcoming series against Zimbabwe next month.
