Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan showcased his form in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), gearing up for the impending second and final Test against Sri Lanka, slated to kick off on March 30 in Chattogram.
Shakib, having skipped the T20 and ODI series along with the first Test to allow ample time for his eye to recover fully, is anticipated to join the squad tomorrow in Chattogram.
In his third appearance for Sheikh Jamal Cricket Club in the DPL, Shakib made a significant impact, crafting a gritty half-century. His knock of 53 runs off 65 deliveries, embellished with six boundaries and two towering sixes, proved instrumental in his team's triumph over Gazi Group Cricketers.
Additionally, he showcased his prowess with the ball, claiming two crucial wickets for a mere 14 runs in nine economical overs.
The match, held at the BKSP-3 ground, witnessed Jamal's dominance as they notched their fifth victory in six matches. Shakib's contribution, complemented by Ziaur Rahman's brisk 55, propelled Jamal to a competitive total of 233 runs before being bowled out in their allotted 50 overs.
Gazi Group, facing an uphill battle from the outset, struggled to contend with Jamal's bowling prowess. Amidst interruptions due to rain, Gazi found themselves at 128-7 in 30 overs when play was momentarily halted.
Upon resumption, with a revised target of 232 runs in 45 overs, Gazi faltered and succumbed to Jamal's bowling might, ultimately folding for 142 runs in 42.2 overs.
Notably, Moin Khan's valiant effort, culminating in his highest score of 42, was not enough to salvage Gazi's innings. Besides Shakib's pivotal two-wicket haul, Mrittunjoy Chowdhury made significant contributions, clinching three wickets for 41 runs, further solidifying Jamal's commanding victory.
