Adam Zampa has withdrawn from the IPL citing personal reasons, marking an unexpected turn for the Rajasthan Royals. Zampa had been retained by Rajasthan Royals ahead of December's auction in Dubai on a contract worth INR 1.5 crore (A$273,000 approx.).
With a young family to attend to and a demanding schedule, including stints in the BBL and Australia's international fixtures against India, the West Indies, and New Zealand since the conclusion of the previous year's ODI World Cup, Zampa's decision reflects the challenges faced by modern athletes balancing professional and personal life.
While Rajasthan Royals boast the talents of India's premier spinners, R Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal, Zampa's absence leaves a void in their lineup. Nevertheless, Zampa’s contributions in the 2023 season, where he claimed eight wickets at an average of 23.50 and an economy rate of 8.54, underline his value to the team.
Notably, his standout performance of 3 for 22 against Chennai Super Kings showcased his prowess on the field.
Zampa's IPL journey has seen him represent various franchises, including Royal Challengers Bangaluru and the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant. Across four seasons, he has amassed 29 wickets in 20 appearances, showcasing his ability to make an impact in the tournament.
