Bangladesh pacer Shoriful Islam has been rested from the first Test against Sri Lanka due to workload management, informed by head coach Chandika Hathurusingha.
According to the head coach, the team decided to rest the pacer due to his workload in the past few months.
"Shoriful played a lot of white ball cricket, so we are giving him time off. He doesn't need to bowl with red ball because he bowled a lot," said Hathurusingha.
Earlier, it was speculated that Shoriful was ruled out due to his back injury. However, BCB's chief physician Debashish Chowdhury provided an update on Shoriful's physical condition, stating that the decision on his participation in the first Test against Sri Lanka has been entrusted to the team management.
"Shoriful scanned his back. We did not encounter any major problems. He has joined the team, but it is up to the management to decide whether or not to play the match," said Debashish.
The first Test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka is starting on March 22 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
