Shanto wants ‘hundred percent’ from Soumya in ODIs

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto expects ‘100 percent' contribution from all-rounder Soumya Sarkar as the Tigers take on Sri Lanka in the three-match ODI series starting on Wednesday.
Soumya's performance in the national team has been on and off, but he made a comeback during the New Zealand tour last year and showcased his talent after a long hiatus from the national team.
Soumya’s recent performance in the T20I series was inconsistent scoring only 49 runs in three matches, but the captain still weighed on the batting all-rounder.
“Batting, bowling, fielding - I want hundred percent from him in every department. He returned after a long time with the T20I series. Played all three matches. There was also a big innings in between. Of course consistency is needed. All batters have to maintain it not specifically Soumya. Every batter needs improvement,” said Shanto in the press conference.
Shanto is confident that Soumya will regain his form soon and perform better, just like he did in the New Zealand series where he played a record innings of 169 runs in the second ODI at Nelson.
“Soumya is working on it. Every batter is working. If we talk about the last innings (Against New Zealand), playing such an innings at such a time, in such a condition is a huge thing for our team. Hopefully, if he gets a chance in this series, he will do great for the team,” he added.
Bangladesh will face Sri Lanka in the first ODI on March 13 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram. The Tigers failed to seal the T20I series against the Lankan 2-1.
