Australia fast bowler Xavier Bartlett will sit out the second ODI against West Indies on Sunday but is likely to return for the third game in Canberra.

Bartlett's was cautious with his workload due to his previous back injury and the tight schedule.

"I was injured at the start of this year and didn't have a chance to play any domestic cricket, which was a frustrating time," he said.

"But you can kind of see the light at the end of the tunnel and you've just got to keep trying to work hard because these days don't happen very often in the game of cricket," he added.

There is no replacement named for Head, which could see Jake Fraser-McGurk making his ODI debut at the SCG. Head is expected to be part of the T20I squad for the tour of New Zealand.
