Shanto should have led Sylhet instead of Mashrafe, argues Sujon

Durdanto Dhaka's head coach Khaled Mahmud Sujon opined that Najmul Hossain Shanto should have been appointed as the captain of the Sylhet Strikers instead of Mashrafe Mortaza and Mohammad Mithun.
Although Mashrafe is considered as one of the finest cricketer and leader in Bangladesh cricket, but the current edition of BPL did not favor him as Sylhet has been struggling to secure a win, suffering five-straight defeats. However, Mashrafe has taken a break from BPL due to his responsibilities as the Whip in Parliament.
Mohammed Mithun was given the responsibility of captaincy instead of Shanto as the franchise decided Mithun to lead the team for the rest of the season as Mashrafe took a break from BPL.
"I was surprised that Shanto wasn't given the captaincy. Mashrafe is one of our finest leaders. In the Sylhet team, I had hoped that since Shanto is the current captain of the Bangladesh team, it would have been better for Shanto to lead Sylhet as well. That's what I would have expected. I understand that Mashrafe is like that. He also provides opportunities to young players," said Sujon.
Shanto led Bangladesh to a T20I series draw, winning a match on a fairly successful recent tour against New Zealand. After that, Bangladesh also won an ODI there. Captain Shanto also led Bangladesh to secure a test win against the Kiwis at home.
"I'm not sure why Mashrafe was chosen as the captain. It's not because Mashrafe can't play since he's retired. But Shanto is currently a national team cricketer and has captained the team in Shakib's absence, so he could have been entrusted with the leadership role. However, it's a matter for the franchise. They may have more confidence in Mashrafe. I would have considered Shanto" he added.
