Sylhet Strikers’ Mashrafe takes break from BPL 2024

Sylhet Strikers' captain, Mashrafe bin Mortaza, has opted to temporarily step away from the 10th Bangladesh Premier League T20 to fulfill his responsibilities as the Whip in Parliament, confirmed by his franchise team.
Mashrafe, who assumed the role of Whip just last week, plays a crucial part in upholding party discipline within the parliamentary setting, ensuring the active participation of party members in legislative votes.
Despite grappling with knee issues since the commencement of the tournament, Mashrafe has acknowledged the less-than-ideal circumstances under which he has been participating in the ongoing BPL.
However, he remains committed to his cricketing duties and has expressed his willingness to rejoin the Strikers later in the season, if he can align with his political commitments and schedule.
"Sylhet Strikers franchise has extended gratitude to Mashrafe for his commitment to the team in the tournament so far and looks forward to having him back when he is able," the press release read.
In the absence of Mashrafe, Sylhet’s vice-captain Mohammad Mithun will lead the team.
In the current edition of BPL, Mashrafe has played five matches and taken one wicket only as his team have lost all five games.
