Fortune Barishal owner Mizanur Rahman has denied that the franchise terminated Shoaib Malik’s contract due to a ‘fixing issue’, defying Malik has been a great campaigner for the team and departed due to personal reasons.
Mizanur expressed his deep regret over the rumor concerning Malik, he emphasized that Malik is a great player who has given his best to the team and urged everyone not to create a controversy about the legendary cricketer.
“I deeply regret the rumor regarding Shoaib Malik. He is a great player. He gave us his best. So we should not make a ruckus about it. We lost two consecutive matches so we should focus on the upcoming matches and hopefully, we will turn around. Thank you for being around Fortune Barishal,” said Mizanur in a video message.
The incident took place during the match between Fortune Barishal and Khulna Riders when Malik surprisingly bowled three no-balls in the over, conceding 18 runs which raised significant suspicion.
Following the match, Malik left Barishal's camp in the middle of the tournament due to personal reasons. The cricketer had flown to Dubai after the end of the Dhaka phase and was expected to join the team on February 6th.
Later, it was revealed that he would not take part in the tournament anymore. However, there were rumors that the franchise terminated the contract of the Pakistan all-rounder on suspicion of "fixing."
Malik failed to impress in the year's BPL as he appeared in three matches for Barishal, scored 17, 5 and 7 runs respectively, and took only one wicket.
