Nazmul Hassan Papon was elected Member of Parliament from Kishoreganj-6 constituency in the 12th National Parliament Elections as the president of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has become a member of parliament for the fourth time.
Cabinet Secretary Mahbub Hossain yesterday unveiled the names of the council of ministers. Other than the prime minister, there will be 25 ministers and 11 state ministers.
Papon has become a minister for the first time as he will lead the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
A question raised after that, whether Papon will be able to perform his duties as Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president if he gets the ministry.
It was learned that the ministry has nothing to do with the BCB president's duties. Earlier also some ministers served as BCB president. So Papon can continue his duty in the same way.
BCB boss also confirmed the matter on Thursday before taking oath as Youth and Sports minister at the Bangabhaban.
“The first thing is that it has nothing to do with the resignation as BCB president. Earlier, we had many ministers who served as the president of BCB, also in abroad. That is not the issue. I already wanted this to be my last term,” Papon said.
“The term is next year again. But I will try to finish the term this year. ICC also has some rules. I am in several of their committees, I am also the chairman, and they don't change it again. They don't give it to someone new. You can see Sri Lanka condition. They have to finish their term. I think I would try to finish this year.” he added.
