After the ODI World Cup campaign concluded, Najmul Hossain Shanto expressed the need for sporting wickets in Bangladesh. Following Bangladesh's last match against Australia on November 11, Shanto, who is now the captain in the absence of Shakib Al Hasan, pleaded that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) should create pitches similar to the ICC tournaments.
Mahbubul Anam, the chairman of the Grounds Committee of the BCB, has assured that the BCB has already given directions to the chief consultant, Tony Hemming and curators to prepare such wickets in the upcoming franchise league Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), as the preparation of T20 World Cup in June.
The BCB official came in front of the media this afternoon after several meetings and said, “T20 is a game of batters. We want a lot of runs here. At the same time, the batter must have the skill, the bowler must also have the skill. The kind of wickets that ICC tries to produce in global events, we will try to produce the same kind of wickets (in BPL) with T20 World Cup ahead of us.”
However, Mahbub is concerned about Bangladesh current weather of Bangladesh, which could be an obstacle for such wickets.
“The weather is a matter of concern. Because of the current fog and cold wave, it will be difficult (to make good wickets) in the beginning (of the BPL). But they (the curators) have been told to make wickets similar with the World Cup. So that our batsmen can use this tournament as preparation for the World Cup,” he added.
