Chennai Super Kings CEO KS Vishwanathan disclosed that the franchise strategically purchased Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with a specific plan to optimize his performance at their home ground.
Mustafizur, secured by the MS Dhoni-led side in the IPL 2024 auction in Dubai at his base price of INR 2 crore.
Vishwanathan emphasized that the decision to sign the Bangladeshi bowler was not impulsive but part of a well-thought-out strategy.
The franchise believes that Mustafizur's mastery of cutters can prove to be a valuable asset at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, also known as Chepauk, which serves as their home ground.
"We thought Mustafizur Rahman would be a good bet at our Chepauk wicket, with the big side boundaries. These were our thoughts, but we were not sure whether we would be able to get them. Luckily, it was a good auction for us this time," Viswanathan told the media at the inaugural event of 'Junior Super Kings' in Chennai on Saturday.
Chennai will be Mustafizur's fifth team in the IPL.
The left-arm pacer has earlier played for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals and the Delhi Capitals.
