Southee: Probably the worst wicket I've come across in my career

New Zealand captain Tim Southee expressed his disappointment with the pitch at Mirpur and rated it as the ‘worst wicket’ he ever played on.
The notorious pitch at the Mirpur is well-known for its slow and spin nature and it proved to be a huge toil on batters to get runs.
The five-day cricket match was completed in just four days, with a day suspended on day 2 due to rain. The match result was decided within 170 overs. Southee expressed his disappointment about the wicket, calling it a 'scrappy Test' and the worst pitch he has ever played on in his career.
“There are a number of ways I could describe that wicket. I think for the match to be all over in 170 overs is a fair reflection on the wicket. It wasn't great. I think there wasn't an even battle between bat and ball," said Southee in the post-match conference.
“I think just a scrappy test match. A tough wicket. Runs were hard to come by. And just those little moments and partnerships throughout were crucial," he said.
"Probably the worst wicket I've come across in my career. Just like I said, the balance between bat and ball was heavily favoured into the bowler's hands. So, I think for the match to be over in 170 overs sort of reflects that. So, for our guys to scrap away and then come away with the win was a big pleasure,"
Southee was proud of his side to secure the win in such conditions and lauded batters Glenn Philips and Mitchel Santner's partnership to register a four-wicket win.
"I think when you come to this part of the world, especially for us, the conditions are so foreign, particularly this test match, very foreign to what we're used to. And I guess to lose the toss as well, and then to come out on top on a wicket like that was very pleasing. Like I say, a number of different guys have stepped up in different ways, and it's nice to bounce back after the first test," he added.
