New Zealand former captain Daniel Vettori said the world sometimes neglects the immense talent in the Bangladesh ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan.
Shakib is the number one ODI all-rounder in the World. He is also the second best all-rounder in the Test and T20. But before Shakib’s magical performance in the World Cup, nobody expected Shakib to play this good in the World Cup. Former New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori also didn’t expect Shakib to play this good and he also admitted that sometimes people underestimate Shakib and neglect his capability.

The ace all-rounder of Bangladesh was phenomenal in this World cup. He has scored 606 runs in this World Cup with an average of 86.57 along with two centuries and five half-centuries.  Shakib is currently third highest run-getter of this World cup. He has also been successful with the ball in his hand as he picked up 11 wickets in eight matches. He became the only player in the history of World Cup with 600+ runs and 10+ wickets in a single edition of World Cup. Shakib is also the first player of World cup history with 1000+ runs and 30+ wickets.

Shakib has crafted his name beside Sachin Tendulkar and Matthew Hayden in terms of highest run in a World Cup.  The Bangladesh talisman also climbed up the ladder of highest ever run getter in the World Cup. He is ninth on that list now.
“Shakib has passed a phenomenal World Cup. I think, everyone knows how good he is. But the truth is, we didn’t expect him to score this many runs in World Cup. The decision of batting him at number three position was a great decision,” Vettori said on a video.

“He took the pressure off from Mushfiq and these two have been through a great tournament. He has been in the top of ICC all-rounder ranking for a long time. But we sometimes neglect his ability. His fitness and skill all worked for him in this tournament,” Vettori added.

Even after Shakib’s phenomenal performance his team Bangladesh finished eighth in the World cup. Bangladesh won three matches in the World Cup against South Africa, West Indies and Afghanistan. Bangladesh was in course for the semifinal but 28 runs defeat against India turned that dream into dust.
