Sri Lankan captain Dimuth Karunaratne wants to win the home series against Bangladesh later this month as a retirement gift for legendary pacer Lasith Malinga.
Sri Lanka wanted to give Malinga a send-off with a win in their last match against India. But that didn’t happen as Rohit Sharma picked up his fifth World Cup century and India won by seven wickets.

That’s why Karunaratne wants to win their home series against Bangladesh to give Malinga a happy retirement memory.
“We all wanted to give him a nice farewell, but unfortunately we couldn’t. But Mali is going to play another couple of games in Sri Lanka against Bangladesh. We’ll try to give a nice send-off at that time,” Karunaratne said at the post-match press conference.
Malinga debuted for Sri Lanka in ODI’s against Australia back in 2004. He has participated in four World cups.
He has taken 56 wickets in 29 matches. Malinga is the third highest wicket-taker in World Cup history. And in his ODI career, he has taken 335 wickets in 225 ODI’s.
Bangladesh will tour Sri Lanka later this month. They will play three ODI’s in this series. The matches are likely to be on 25, 27 and 29 July and all of the matches will be played in Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
