Tamim Iqbal stayed him away from the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), only to take better preparation for the World Cup. According to him, he worked on some specific issues on his batting and did skill training to keep his fitness in top notch. But nothing was shown in the cricket’s biggest extravaganza as he ended another barren World Cup, in what could well be his last participation in the showpiece event.
He just scored 235 runs with one half-century to his name, averaging 29.37. That only half-century, a 62-run knock came against Australia who literally ended Tiger any hope of winning the match by piling up a huge 381 runs on the board.
His last chance was to end the pretty ordinary tournament with some pride when Bangladesh played against Pakistan at Lord’s a venue which is close to his heart as he scored a scintillating century here in a Test match in 2010, to establish him one of the finest opener of the country.

As he is currently 30 years old, he is not a certain starter in 2023 World Cup. Moreover his fitness looked not in top place like Shakib Al Hasan or Mushfiqur Rahim, even though he often said he changed his food habits and other to keep his fit. But it was not hardly shown in this World Cup, in which he also missed a catch of Rohit Sharma in a crucial match against India. Sharma went on to score a 92 ball-104 and thereby effectively ended Bangladesh’s hope to reach last four spot.
Tamim Iqbal is the highest run getter for Bangladesh with 6871 runs under his belt in the ODI’s. But despite being the highest run getter of the country he never can prove him in cricket’s biggest extravaganza. This is Tamim’s fourth World Cup. He played 29 World Cup matches in his career and in these matches he just scored 718 runs with an average of 24.75. He failed to score any hundred in the World Cup too. His highest score is 95 against low-ranked Scotland in 2015 World Cup.
Tamim started his World Cup career well, scoring 51 runs against India in 2007 World Cup—a knock that helped Bangladesh to get over the line against India. But he failed to emulate this performance later on, as he scored just 121 runs in the remaining eight matches.
In 2011, World Cup was held in the sub-continent, a familiar hunting ground for Tamim. But Tamim failed to sparkle in this edition too. He scored just 157 runs in six matches.
Tamim failed once more to prove his class in the 2015 at Australia. He scored just 154 runs there in six matches.
But before the World Cup Tamim was phenomenal form. From the end of 2015 World Cup to the start of 2019 World Cup, Tamim scored 2511 runs in 52 matches, with an average of 57.06. He scored seven hundreds in this period.
No doubt about it that Tamim is one of the pillars of Bangladesh’s batting line up, stat suggested he never can prove his ability in the cricket’s biggest carnival.
