Bangladesh vice-captain Shakib Al Hasan said that the dimension of Cardiff ground forced Bangladeshi spinners to change their mentality.

Shakib believes going on to the field with different mentality on different grounds becomes difficult for the players.

This impacts cricketer’s performance also thinks Shakib. Bangladesh played their first two matches in the Oval. Oval is bigger than Cardiff in dimension.

For this Shakib-Mehedy were unable to bring variation in their bowling. They were able to bowl with wicket-taking mentality but in Cardiff, the ground was much shorter so they had to bowl defensively to save runs.

Shakib-Mehedy bowled according to that plan but they went for plenty against the English batters. Shakib leaked 71 runs and Miraz gave 67 runs. Miraz took two wickets but Shakib was wicketless.

“Many things differ because of ground dimension and condition. In Oval our spinners can bowl with more flight and here we have to think about bowling defensively.”

“Its very difficult because spinners always have the mentality to pick up wickets. We always think that way so, when we come away from home we have the same mentality. When you play in these sorts of ground you have to change a lot of things then coping up becomes difficult for us.” Shakib told the reporters.

English batsmen took the full benefit of this short boundary they accumulated a huge total of 386 runs. And they wrapped up Bangladesh in 280 runs and picked up a crucial victory of 106 runs.

Mehedy also echoed the same sentiment and added they were unable to bowl to their usual plans.

‘’For spinners bowling in this type of small ground is very difficult and the wicket was very good for batting, batsmen scored boundaries pretty easily. Batsmen didn’t give us any chance; they batted the way they wanted. It was difficult for us. If we had tried a bit harder we could have restricted them under 350 runs. We conceded 40 runs more, if we could have restricted them below 350 runs, could have created a chance,’’ said Miraj

"Today the weather was windy, this was a big factor. The boundary line was small in straight and long on the mid-wicket region. I think if we could have minimized the runs, it could have created an opportunity. Or if every bowler could have saved 7-10 runs each, then the runs could have stayed in the 330-350 region and it could have created a good opportunity." He added.
