Injured all-rounder Shakib al Hasan on Saturday urged Bangladesh not to take Zimbabwe lightly in the upcoming one-day international series as this might take a heavy toll on the side.

The three-match series begins today in Mirpur with the first ODI, with Sakib missing the game through a finger injury that he picked up in January and aggravated during recent Asia Cup.

‘When I made my debut we used to lose against Zimbabwe. Now we beat them. But I think we should not take them lightly. Because if we make any mistake, they have the capacity to cash in on it and win game,’ Shakib told reporters.

The all-rounder came up with the opinion during a programme in Dhaka when he was unveiled as brand ambassador of Best Holdings Limited, the owner of Le Meridien hotel in Dhaka.

Shakib, however, backed his team-mates to overcome any odd situation that they might fall in during the series.

‘It’s natural there can be some mistake,’ he said. [But] it’s also possible to overcome some mistake. You can overcome come mistake inside the game. The kind of players we have I am sure they can overcome these mistakes.’

Bangladesh last played a match at home without Shakib also against Zimbabwe in 2015.
