There is an apparent mismatch between the interest in women’s
and men’s cricket. The fact that people have to use the word ‘women’ while
speaking of the cricket played by them but don’t have to use the term ‘men’ is quite
the testament required to proof the claim.
However, there are some cricketer in the women fraternity who
could actually better their men counterpart. One such player is Elyse Perry.
The Australian all-rounder is an epitome of an all-round sportswoman.
Not only can she bat and bowl brilliantly, she also plays
football professionally—and she is good at even that.
However, we shall only focus on her achievements as a
cricketer and her latest one is that of winning the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Award
for the Cricketer of the Year, named after the legendary English cricketer,
Rachael Heyhoe, for her wonderful service to the game of cricket.
The Australian made history last month when whe scored an
unbeaten 213 to become the holder of the highest individual score by an Australian
women in Tests, overcoming the 209* scored by Karel Rolton against England 16
years ago.
Her compatriot, Beth Mooney, was also awarded with the T20
Player of the Year as well as the Emerging Player of the Year.
The rise of Australian women cricket just ensures that they
are going to run parallel with the men’s team when it comes to world
domination, something that the other teams might not like.
