Shoriful Islam says he has no regrets about missing Bangladesh’s historic first Test win over Australia in Darwin and is now ready to return for the Mackay Test.

Shoriful was part of Bangladesh’s plans for the ongoing series but missed the opening Test in Darwin after suffering an injury. He later joined the squad and completed his rehabilitation, but did not take part in Bangladesh’s historic nine-wicket victory over Australia.

Speaking to the media in Mackay on Tuesday, Shoriful said he has no regrets about missing the first Test.

“I don't feel unlucky at all for missing the first Test. What happens can't always be predicted. I got some rest after the injury and went through rehabilitation. I think the break was actually good for my body.”

Shoriful watched the Darwin Test from the sidelines and regularly prayed for his teammates as Bangladesh secured their first Test win on Australian soil.

“I was always praying for the players on the field, hoping they could give their best and that we could win the match. When we won, I felt like I might have been happier than the millions of people in Bangladesh.”

Shoriful also joked about making it into the celebrations despite not playing the match.

“Alhamdulillah, it felt really good. It’s great to be part of such a historic win. Even though I wasn’t in the XI, at least I made it into the pictures of the celebrations!”
