Litton reacted sharply when asked about the exclusion of Shamim Hossain from the squad.
“Look, it would certainly have been good to have him (Shamim). But this is not my call; it’s entirely the selectors’ call. The selectors dropped Shamim without giving me any notice, not even a moment's notice. As far as I knew, when a team is managed, at the very least the captain is informed about who is coming in and who is going out,” he said.
Shamim’s recent performances have been poor. He was left out of the series after scoring 0, 1, and 1 in his last three innings.
When asked whether he contacted the board afterward, Litton’s displeasure became even clearer.
In response to whether it was “disrespectful” for a captain to have no say in team selection, Litton said the board had made it clear that he must play with the squad given to him.
“I was clearly told that I have to work with the team provided by the selection panel and the board. I will not have a say in which player I want or don’t want. I always believed that a captain has a plan to build and organise a team. But recently I learned that whatever squad I am given, my job is simply to deliver results on the field with that team,” the Bangladesh captain added.
