Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam has been penalised for a Level 1 offence under the ICC Code of Conduct during the third ODI against Sri Lanka.

The 31-year-old received a 10 percent deduction from his match fee for violating Article 2.2, which deals with the misuse of cricket equipment, clothing, or ground fixtures during an international match.

The incident took place in the 21st over of Pakistan’s innings when Babar struck the stumps with his bat after being dismissed.

Match officials Alex Wharf, Rashid Riaz, Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, and Faisal Afridi filed the charge, while match referee Ali Naqvi imposed the penalty.

Babar accepted the charge and the sanction, so no formal hearing was required. He was also handed one demerit point, his first in a 24-month span.

Level 1 offences can result in anything from an official reprimand to a fine of up to 50 percent of a player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.

Despite the incident, Pakistan completed a dominant series sweep over Sri Lanka, with Babar finishing as the top run-scorer with 165 runs, including his 20th ODI century.
