After Bangladesh’s first Test victory, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto hopes that Mushfiqur Rahim will continue playing even after his upcoming milestone 100th Test.

Mushfiqur has long been Bangladesh’s most capped Test cricketer. Beyond runs, centuries, and fifties, he now stands on the verge of a new milestone.

With the upcoming Mirpur Test, he is set to become the first Bangladeshi to play 100 Tests. So far, in 99 Tests, the right-hander has scored 6,351 runs with 12 centuries and 27 half-centuries.

Although it will be a first for Bangladesh, Mushfiqur will become the world’s 84th cricketer to reach 100 Tests.

Speaking about Mushfiqur’s 100th Test, Shanto said: “Of course, it’s a huge achievement and very exciting. I said in the first press conference that we want to celebrate it. The players want to enjoy that day, or all five days. The respect is always there. This kind of achievement has never happened before in Bangladesh. So we believe such a person deserves the highest respect, and as captain, I will ensure that.”

Mushfiqur has already retired from T20Is and earlier this year stepped away from ODIs amid criticism. It’s still unclear how long he will continue playing Tests. Shanto hopes Mushfiqur won’t stop after his 100th Test, saying the team needs someone with his experience.

“I hope Mushfiq bhai continues even after playing 100 Tests. We need an experienced player like him in our Test side. I hope he carries on” Shanto added.
