Mushfiqur Rahim is on the verge of becoming the first Bangladeshi cricketer to play 100 Test matches. If all goes according to plan, the former national captain will reach the milestone during the Test series against Ireland.

Current captain Najmul Hossain Shanto says the team intends to celebrate the veteran batter’s achievement together.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Shanto expressed his excitement ahead of the milestone moment.

“We are very excited. Personally, I want us all to celebrate and enjoy these two Test matches together,” Shanto said.

“If he remains fit and reaches his 100th Test, we want to celebrate all five days as a team and enjoy the occasion. We are hopeful, In Sha Allah, he will play both Tests without any issues.”

Shanto emphasized the value of having such an experienced campaigner in the dressing room.

“Having him in the team is always encouraging. In Test cricket, experience matters. His long career, how he handles pressure in crucial situations, these are things we discuss and learn from.”

Across 98 Tests so far, Mushfiqur has scored 6,328 runs with 27 fifties and 12 centuries. The 38-year-old remains the only Bangladeshi batter to have scored three double-centuries in Test cricket.

The first Test of the series begins Tuesday at 9:30 AM at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. It will be Mushfiqur’s 99th Test.

The second and final Test of the series is scheduled to begin on November 19 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. If all goes well, that match will mark Mushfiqur Rahim’s landmark 100th Test.
